Depression
Depression
Depression is among the most common psychological problem. The primary characteristic of clinical depression is a down mood state. This often takes one of three forms. You may feel that life is hopeless or that you are feeling helpless. You may engage in self-pity type thinking, (Why me, Everything happens to me?). You may engage in self-degradation, (I'm no good, I will never be any good, I always mess things up).
Using cognitive strategies, the psychologists at WCBT will help you uncover these self-defeating thoughts and help create new more positive and rational ways of thinking. In addition, we will help you develop skills and abilities to cope with major life events and to learn social relationship skills when these are missing. If medication is necessary, one of our consulting psychiatrists will prescribe the correct medication for you.
Some people feel that they may be able to handle the problem on their own, and in some cases this is true, but if you have had these symptoms for several weeks or months, it is best to give us a call so that we can help you.
